Brent Morrisson - Director Of Bands

Before coming to Kenowa Hills, Mr. Morrisson was the Director of Bands at Otsego Public Schools for 17 years, He is a native of Sturgis MI where he began his study in Percussion. He received his Masters of Music in Conducting from the American Band College of Southern Oregon University in the summer of 2004, and a Bachelor’s of Music Education from Western Michigan University in 1999, where he studied private percussion with Judy Moonert. He has performed with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Michigan State University Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Men’s Glee Club, as well as Western Michigan University’s Orchestra, Symphonic Band, and Percussion Ensemble. Mr. Morrisson is an active member of MSBOA, and was the Vice-President for High School Solo and Ensemble for District 10 for 5 years. In 2007, he was inducted into the American School Band Director’s Association. He performed with and is an alumnus of the 7 time World Champion Cavaliers Drum and Bugle corps from 1989 - 1990. He is a former member of the MSU, and WMU Marching Bands. While at MSU, Mr. Morrisson played at the 1989 Percussive Arts Society National Convention with the highly acclaimed MSU Drumline in Philadelphia. In the summer of 1991 he coached the bass line of the Northern Aurora Drum and Bugle Corps from Saginaw MI. From 1990 - 1999 he taught private Percussion at Otsego Public Schools and Drum lines from Portage Central, Plainwell, Otsego and Wayland Schools. Under Mr. Morrisson’s Direction, the Otsego Symphonic Band achieved 16 years of straight 1st division ratings in MSBOA District and State Band and Orchestra Festivals. The Marching Band had 9 straight undefeated seasons in Scholastic Marching Competition, 17 straight 1st Division ratings at MSBOA Marching Band Festivals, 12 Grand Championships, a 3rd place at MCBA State Band Finals in 1999, and has won a total of 131 Caption awards in Best Music, Marching, Percussion, Colorguard and Best Field Commanders. Currently, he is an active adjudicator for Marching and Concert Band Festivals, as well as a Drill Writer and Percussion arranger and has been nominated for the Disney Hand Teacher Award for creativity in teaching for 2005. In 2000, Mr. Morrisson’s Symphonic Band performed at the 32nd Annual Central Michigan University Wind Band Colloquim and in 2005, at the 37th Annual Spring Conference on Winds and Percussion at WMU. Mr. Morrisson was on staff with the Southern Michigan Ambassadors of Music, and traveled to Europe three times during the summers of 2007, 2009, and 2011 as part of this organization. During the 2011 trip Mr. Morrisson was a featured Xylophone soloist while traveling through England, France, Germany, Liechtenstein, Austria and Switzerland with 250 students, parents and staff. Mr. Morrisson is married to Cecelia Morrisson a registered Nurse, Vocalist, Pianist, Photographer and Flutist. We have a beautiful 3yr. old daughter named Sophia, and three dogs Emma, Lucas and Phineas.

Christopher Bookie - Associate Director Of Bands

Christopher Bookie has been at Kenowa Hills since 2003. His responsibilities include teaching the Marching Band, High School and Middle School Concert Band, as well as teaching K-5 General Music. In addition, he also oversees the Jazz Band and Percussion Ensembles. He is a 2002 graduate of Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. Chris was a former student of Kenowa Hills and was also an instructor for the Marching Knights from 1994 to the present, first as a drumline/pit instructor, and then as an associate director. Mr. Bookie graduated with his Master's degree in Education with an emphasis in music from Grand Valley State University in 2008. His professional affiliations include MSBOA, PASIC, and MENC. Mr. Bookie is a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan and currently resides in Jenison, Michigan with his wife Michele, and daughters Avery and Lillian.
